the Laser Treatment Clinic | Thread Veins

Thread veins are extremely common and sometimes embarrassing, mostly affecting the face and legs. The causes of thread veins are unknown although they may be caused by changes in temperature, smoking, hormonal changes, alcohol and prolonged standing as well as being a possible inherited condition.

Thread Veins (Telangiectasia) are small superficial red, purple or blue veins which may appear anywhere on the body, but most commonly on the face and legs. Thread veins occur when the vein dilates and become large enough to be visible through the skin. They are classified according to their appearance as linear, branching or spider telangiectasia.

The Science

Vascular lesions such as Thread Veins, Spider Veins and Broken Capilliaries are treated with the Advanced Intense Pulsed Light treatment, by absorption of the light by the hemoglobin. When the temperature reaches about 60-70C, the blood coagulates, and the inner cells of the blood vessels denature. This causes the vein vessel to collapse. The vein then dissolves. This treatment is suitable for patients who are seeking a non-invasive, minimal risk solution to clear skin.

The Treatment

A cold gel is applied to the area to be treated. After which the sapphire crystal waveguide is gently applied to the skin and pulses of light are applied.
You should feel no more than the sharp snap of a rubber band. The treatment is extremely fast and an area of the face such as the cheeks may take less than 5 minutes to treat whilst the full face may take just 20 minutes.

The treatment is tailored to your individual needs and approved by our medical expert.
