1. If you have had a word or phrase tattooed that contains spelling mistakes… Actress Hayden Panettiere has a misspelt tattoo in Italian that runs down her back. This may be less embarrassing if the tattoo is in a foreign language, but a mistake still detracts from the significance of the phrase.
2. While on the subject of foreign languages, it is always a good idea to double check what you’re tattooing. Pop-star Rihanna reportedly wanted ‘rebel flower’ in French, but ended up with ‘flower rebel’ when the words were inked in the wrong order.
3. Another good reason to consider tattoo removal is if you can’t remember why you had the tattoo done in the first place. Kelly Osborne has been quoted as saying that she wants to have laser treatment to remove the piano keyboard on her forearm, as she ‘can’t even play the piano’. Apparently she will also remove the hearts and bones design on her wrist, because she doesn’t like them. This is another good reason.
4. Tattooing a partner’s name is always a risky business, and a long list of celebrities have either had tattoos removed or covered up when their relationships have failed.
