For those with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), finding effective and long-lasting solutions to manage symptoms, especially unwanted hair growth, can be challenging.

There are several hair removal methods that those with unwanted hair can use, but one method may be particularly effective. Laser hair removal could be the solution that many with PCOS are searching for.

But is laser treatment the right choice for you? In this blog post, we’ll be exploring the various advantages of laser hair removal for treating PCOS-induced hirsutism, helping you make an informed decision.

Understanding PCOS

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is a condition that is thought to affect 1 in 10 women across the UK. This condition is caused by an imbalance of reproductive hormones, leading to a variety of symptoms. Common symptoms include: irregular menstrual cycle, weight gain, acne, and excessive hair growth, which is medically known as hirsutism. This unwanted hair growth usually occurs on the face, chest, and back, areas where men typically grow hair but women do not. This can cause low self esteem and confidence issues within those who suffer from PCOS, but laser hair removal treatment can help counter this.

How laser treatment can help

Laser hair removal offers a promising solution for managing hirsutism caused by PCOS. Laser treatment involves using concentrated light beams which penetrate the hair follicles, the follicles then absorb the light which destroys the hair. Because PCOS continues to stimulate hair growth, multiple sessions are often required for a significant and long-lasting change.

The benefits of laser treatment

Long-term & long-lasting results: Unlike other methods of hair removal such as shaving, waxing, or plucking, laser hair removal can significantly reduce hair growth over time. This can even result in a permanent reduction for some individuals.

Precision & accuracy: Laser technology allows for targeted treatment, meaning it can effectively remove hair while leaving the surrounding area undamaged.

Speed: Laser treatment is very speedy. Each laser pulse takes a fraction of a second and can treat multiple hairs at the same time. This means that smaller areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute!

Psychological benefits: Many women with PCOS experience lowered self-esteem due to the unwanted hair growth. Laser hair removal can significantly boost confidence, leading to a happier mindset.

For more information about how laser treatment can help manage PCOS hirsutism, please contact our team today.

Confidence is a feeling that everyone is chasing. Feeling good within yourself is amazing for your mental well-being. If you’re someone that’s seeking to feel their best this year, then why not consider laser treatment? Here at The Laser Treatment Clinic, we offer a wide range of tailored services with the aims of making you look, and feel your very best.

Is 2023 the time for you to invest in your body, health, and appearance? Below we’ll be discussing how laser treatment works and how it can help your self confidence.

We believe that everyone deserves to feel their very best in their own skin. Our team of dedicated skincare experts can help you achieve the skin you’ve always wanted.

How does laser treatment work?

Laser treatment offers a highly effective solution to many skin concerns. Whether you are suffering from unwanted hair, acne, hyperpigmentation, burn scars, and much more: laser treatments can help. But how exactly do lasers work to help solve these issues?

Collagen is a protein found in the body that’s responsible for providing structural support to the skin and connective tissues. What this means is that when collagen is produced, it can help repair damaged skin and leave it looking healthy and fresh. Laser treatment involves stimulating the production of collagen in the target areas and encouraging new skin cells to grow and repair the damaged areas.

This in turn, reduces the problematic areas on your skin and leaves you looking and feeling that much more confident!

Types of laser treatment

If you’re interested in laser treatment then it’s important to know which type you’d want. There are two main types of laser treatment available, which have key differences between them. These two types are called ablative and non-ablative lasers.

Ablative lasers involve removing the outlet layer of the skin and heating up the under layer. Removing the outlet layer encourages new skin cells to grow, which stimulates the production of collagen. The heat from these lasers are also effective in stimulating collagen production too. This results in firmer and smoother skin.

Non-ablative lasers, on the other hand, do not remove and damage the outer layer of the skin. This is less invasive and ideal for people with minor skin concerns. The heat from non-ablative lasers stimulates the production of collagen so you get effective results.

If you’re unsure on which type of laser treatment is right for you then don’t worry. At The Laser Treatment Clinic, one of our skincare professionals will assess your skin and offer tailored advice to you.

We have a wide range of laser treatments that are suitable for all skin types. Whether you need laser resurfacing, intense pulsed light therapy, or another treatment, we can make you feel and look as confident as ever.

With benefits such as firmer, smoother, and clearer skin, why not give laser treatment a try this year?

Please contact us today to start your laser treatment journey.

There are a number of different skin pigmentation disorders that can affect many people day to day. Skin pigmentation issues are incredibly common, and can leave people feeling insecure in their skin. Skin pigmentation disorders cause the skin to become darker or lighter than usual, and can lead to patches of discoloration on the body and face.

At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we offer a wide range of treatments to help improve skin pigmentation problems. From laser therapy to other non-invasive options, we can help you achieve the skin of your dreams. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about skin pigmentation disorders below.

Melasma

Melasma is a skin pigmentation condition that causes dark patches of skin that usually appear on your face. These spots are always darker than your natural skin tone, making it a form of hyperpigmentation.

The causes of melasma are often one of two things. Either exposure to UV light, or hormonal influences. Many pregnant women develop melasma during their pregancy as it is thought to be triggered by a rise in the female sex hormones, oestrogen and progesterone.

Melasma can go away on its own after a while, or it can last for a lifetime. If you have melasma and wish to treat it, there are a number of ways we can help. Laser therapy is a popular option when it comes to treating melasma. Laser treatment involves heating up the skin to encourage the production of collagen, allowing for a more even looking appearance.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is a skin pigmentation disorder caused by inflammation. This inflammation can come from inflammatory conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Post-inflammatory inflammation occurs when your cells respond to damage by producing more melanin. This results in the uneven pigmentation.

Luckily, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation does eventually go away on its own, usually within 2 years. However, if you wish to speed things up and get rid of it sooner rather than later, we have effective treatments waiting for you.

For severe cases of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, laser therapy is offered. This works by either removing the top layer of skin (ablative lasers) or heating up the skin to produce more collagen (non-ablative lasers). Our skincare specialists will assess your skin and determine the right kind of treatment for you. If you suffer from hyperpigmentation due to post-inflammatory inflammation and you wish to seek treatment, look no further than our team of friendly professionals at The Laser Treatment Clinic. Where we offer laser treatments and other non-invasive options to treat this condition.

If you’re seeking treatment for a skin pigmentation disorder, why not book your free consultation with us here.

Active acne is one of the most prominent skin conditions in the UK. Around 80% of people will experience acne at some point in their lives. Although active acne primarily affects teenagers due to a change in hormones, many adults suffer from acne too.

If you have acne you may be experiencing not only the physical symptoms, but the emotional and mental symptoms too. Acne is known to lead to emotional distress and low confidence.

At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we aim to help alleviate your active acne and help you manage it effectively. We want to give you the skin of your dreams and restore your confidence. To do this we have a range of treatment options for you to consider.

From laser treatment to our very own Derma White treatment, we’re sure to have a treatment that suits you best.

Laser Treatment for Active Acne

There are two kinds of laser treatment options for active acne that we offer here at The Laser Treatment Clinic. The following methods work by using lasers to remove acne-causing bacteria on the surface of the skin, followed by light that helps heal the breakage caused by lesions. The two laser treatments are:

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL is a form of light therapy used to treat an array of different skin conditions. One of these skin conditions includes active acne.

It works by sending out wavelengths of light into the skin which removes the acne-causing bacteria from the surface of the skin. This is effective in reducing acne as the bacteria is the cause of inflammation and pain.

Unlike laser resurfacing treatment, IPL uses more than one wavelength of light, whereas lasers are much more focused.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing treatment involves using lasers to remove the damaged outer layer of the skin. This removes dead skin cells, acne-causing bacteria, and allows for new skin to grow.

Similar to IPL therapy, this treatment also helps with the healing of damaged skin and helps the skin repair itself. This is because the heat from the lasers promotes healing.

Derma White Treatment

Another treatment to consider if you have acne is Derma White treatment. This treatment is a non-invasive skin treatment that works in a similar way to a chemical peel.

Derma White treatment is a herbal blend of vitamins and minerals that aims to rejuvenate and revitalise the skin. It’s a completely safe treatment that’s used to treat a variety of different skin concerns. The Derma White treatment is sure to leave your skin feeling brighter and more even. This treatment is offered exclusively at our clinic, so you won’t find it anywhere else!

If you’re interested in any of the above treatments then book a free consultation with us, where our skincare experts will assess your skin and discuss the best course of action for you.

With the skin being the body’s largest organ, it is no wonder there are such an array of skin conditions, which affect millions of people across the UK. Receiving a diagnosis for a skin condition can often be confusing and leaves many people wondering what to do next. With so much information online, you can often find yourself falling down a research rabbit hole, feeling stuck and unsure what is the right treatment for you. At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we understand this feeling and want to offer some clarity and guidance for our skin patients. Here we have taken a look at some of the most common skin conditions and concerns, along with their causes and treatment options.

Acne

Acne is an extremely common skin condition, often affecting teenagers throughout their stages of puberty but can be found amongst adults in their 20s and 30s too. People with acne will experience various symptoms such as blackheads, spots, oily skin etc. This will most commonly affect areas of the face, although can appear across the back and chest.

Although, much like many other skin conditions, the cause of acne is not easily identified, there are ways this can be treated. For example:

Topical creams and ointments

Antibiotics

For some women, contraceptive pills can be prescribed

Laser treatments and skin care plans

Acne Scarring

As a result of acne many people will also experience acne scarring. This is where the skin will scar due to the follicle walls becoming damaged. Scarring is a natural response to healing from the body, although this is normal, many people will seek treatments to minimise the appearance of scars.

Treatments may include:

Topical creams

Laser treatments

Dermabrasion

In order to access skin treatments for acne scarring, it is advised that all active acne is treated first.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a long-term skin condition which typically affects women over the age of 30. Often these women will have a fairer complexion. Initial signs of rosacea will include redness and irritation, often accompanied with dry skin and patches of dis-colouration. For people diagnosed with rosacea there are a selection of treatments available, although results tend to differ for each individual. You may be recommended the following treatments:

Prescriptions for creams and gels to ease the redness and irritation, keeping your skin moisturised

Antibiotics for a course of time, this may help to target the cause of your rosacea

IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment – which we offer at The Laser Treatment Clinic, this works to target the blood vessels below the affected skin to reduce the redness.

In order to maintain rosacea symptoms, doctors and dermatologists will also recommend keeping track of triggers which may be causing symptoms to worsen. For example, consuming alcohol and certain foods.

London based skin treatments

Laser hair removal has become a common choice for both women and men, with people looking for a more permanent form of hair removal that will offer long-lasting results. If you’re considering swapping out your usual at-home hair removal options for something that will offer longer lasting results but have Asian or Black African skin, here are a couple of useful points to keep in mind before you book in for an appointment.

Suitable Laser Types

Laser hair removal options have come a long way since they were first introduced, and while it’s no longer true that they can only be used on those with fair skin, some machines will work more effectively on darker skin tones than others. In order to ensure that your laser hair removal treatment will be successful, if you have Asian or Black African skin, you need to know which type of lasers will be the most suitable for your skin.

One of these is the Diode Yag laser, which is the advanced technology we use in our Harley Street clinic for patients with darker skin tones, in order to ensure that the hair removal treatment will be effective. Although Diode laser hair removal requires several treatments in comparison to other laser machines, it carries minimal side effects and short downtime.

No Pain, No Gain?

When it comes to laser hair removal, especially on darker skin tones, most people assume that the procedure carries the same level of pain as laser tattoo removal, however, we are happy to confirm that this is not the case. While it’s true that laser hair removal isn’t entirely pain-free, most of our patients report a sensation similar to a rubber band being snapped against their skin during the treatment, however, this sensation only occurs while the laser is being used on the area. Following the treatment, it’s also normal to experience some redness and itching – similar to the feeling of sunburn – but this is completely normal and should subside after the first few hours. Others note that it feels very similar to the sensation felt when waxing.

Results Take Time

Yet another common misconception surrounding laser hair removal – for any skin type – is that you will only require one session in order to see results. However, in order for the treatment to be effective, you will need to book in multiple appointments. As we have already mentioned, this takes multiple sessions but is far more effective, lasting and gentle on darker skin tones in the long run. This is due to each hair being at a different stage of the hair growth cycle. It is important to understand the hair growth cycle. Between starting to grow and falling out years later, each hair passes through 3 main stages, anagen, catagen and telogen.

Commonly seen as a women’s issue, stretch marks can affect anyone because aside from pregnancy, they are also commonly caused by rapid growth and rapid weight gain. Due to their unsightly appearance, most people are concerned with their treatment and removal. If you are serious about treating your stretch marks, we’ve compiled some of the common questions you might have.

Do Stretch Marks Fade on Their Own?

While stretch marks do fade to a lighter colour than their initial appearance, they will never completely disappear. This is because, like a scar, they are the result of damage to the skin’s structure and the loss of collagen.

Can Stretch Marks Be Treated with Over-The-Counter Products?

Yes and no. It is recommended that you use over-the-counter-products alongside professional treatments in order to achieve the best results. We offer a number of homecare products which, in combination with the recommended in-clinic treatments, can be used to improve the look of stretch marks.

Our recommended range of homecare products treats stretchmarks by doing three things: healing, moisturising, and rejuvenating. The Marine Boost Super Serum helps the skin heal itself, while the Sea Collagen Marine Body Serum provides essential moisture, and the Body Exfoliating Gloves help to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin.

For darker skin tones that often experience pigmentation issues with stretch marks, the Ultra Light Derma White cream can be used to treat stretch marks as well as the associated pigmentation.

What are the Best Treatments for Stretch Marks?

There is no definite answer for this as the best way to treat stretch marks is evaluated on an individual basis by our skin experts, taking into account the location of the stretch marks, their size, age, and your skin type. Generally, we recommend a combination of different treatments to achieve the best results.

The Marine Peel Treatment works by gently exfoliating the skin, rejuvenating its appearance. In the case of stretch marks, this means that they appear smoother than before the treatment. Unlike other peels, our exclusive Marine Peel Treatment works efficiently but gently, is contains soothing and hydrating natural ingredients to promote healing.

Also working on the top layer of the skin to treat stretch marks is the Advanced Dermabrasion treatment. Commonly referred to as medical-grade microdermabrasion, the treatment involves the use of medical grade crystal or diamond crusts, to remove the top layer of skin. This triggers the body’s wound healing response and the production of collagen and elastin. Despite sounding painful, you should only feel some discomfort during the treatment, after which your stretch marks will appear smoother and plumper.

To complement these treatments, we also recommend Collagen Induction Therapy, which works on the deeper layers of the skin to tackle the look of stretch marks. Like Advanced Dermabrasion, Collagen Induction Therapy treats stretch marks by triggering the body’s wound healing response but it does so on a deeper level.

Can Stretch Marks Be Treated on All Skin Types?

Stretch marks can be treated on both light and dark skin tones, however, darker skin tones will require extra care in order to not cause any hyperpigmentation issue. Because of this, we recommend consulting a skin expert in order to find the combination of treatments that will work best for your skin type and stretch marks.

Call All Types of Stretch Marks Be Treated?

Yes. Although stretch marks have different causes – such as pregnancy, rapid growth, and rapid weight gain – once they have formed, they are all treated using similar techniques. This is because no matter what their cause is, all stretch marks are essential scars, resulting from the overstretching of the skin and the loss of collagen and elastin. However results do vary.

While the physical signs of acne are easy to recognise, what is a lot harder to see is the mental impact it can have on individuals, leading to stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem. In today’s blog, we’ll talk you through what causes acne, and some of the most effective ways of dealing with the condition.

Causes of Acne

Affecting up to eight out of ten individuals aged between 11 and 30, acne is one of the most common skin conditions in the UK. This also makes acne the eighth most common skin disease worldwide. The four most common causes of the condition are excess oil production, bacteria, clogged hair follicles, and hormones.

There are also a number of factors that can aggravate acne or trigger it. Stress, diet, and certain medications can all trigger changes in your body that lead to your acne worsening. Food triggers are the easiest to minimise, by avoiding certain items like skim milk, carbohydrate-rich foods, and chocolate.

Help with Acne

There are a number of professional treatments available to help active acne before it leaves behind permanent scarring. Unlike over-the-counter treatments, these ensure long-term effects and penetrate deep into your skin targeting the cause of your acne.

IPL

According to studies, IPL has been proven an effective method for helping facial acne. Furthermore, when compared to benzoyl peroxide treatment, it was found to be more effective with certain types of acne. You’ll need to be patient as dermatologists usually recommend 3-5 sessions, so you won’t see results straight away. After the initial treatment period, you can expect your acne to stay in remission for a minimum of six months, although some patients have reported being acne-free for much longer.

IPL treatments work by targeting the skin with high intensity-pulses of light. For acne, the treatment helps by killing acne-causing bacteria and shrinking sebaceous glands. Haemoglobin absorbs the light, heating up the fine blood vessels supplying sebaceous glands, causing micro-injuries to the glands. The result of this is a decrease in the production of oil, which is one of the primary causes of acne.

Marine Peel Treatment

It’s a common misconception that acne requires harsh and aggressive treatments. Instead, a gentle but effective treatment works best because your skin is already inflamed. Our Marine Peel treatments works with your skin, rather than against it, to repair it and help acne skin. Formulated with powerful natural actives sourced from marine algae and botanical herbs, it offers a natural alternative to chemical and glycolic peels that can often dry out your skin starting a cycle of over-moisturising which then further aggravates your acne.

Derma White Treatment

Ideal for darker skin tones that often experience hyperpigmentation as a side effect of acne, the Laser Treatment Clinic’s specially formulated Derma White Treatment is a safe and natural treatment for acne marks. Made without any skin irritants, harsh chemicals, acids, or skin bleaching agents, the Derma White Treatment is ideal to use combined with IPL to effectively help acne skin.

“How can I stop my face from ageing?” is a question we often get asked by our clients. While there is no way to stop the ageing process, there are steps you can take to prevent premature ageing. In our latest blog, we’ll run you through the professional treatments you can use to slow down the signs of ageing.

What Causes Skin to Age

Before we talk about how to prevent premature ageing, it’s important to know the most common factors that cause it. Sun exposure, smoking, lack of sleep, and an unhealthy diet all contribute to premature ageing but our modern lifestyle plays a part too. There is no quick fix to combat these irritants, and often a lifestyle change is required to keep your skin from looking older than you feel. If you already suffer from premature ageing, professional treatments can help you turn back the clock on your skin.

Professional Treatments

Here at The Laser Treatment Clinic, we have 18 years of professional skin care experience and we offer a range of treatments that can be used alone or combined to effectively tackle the signs of premature facial ageing.

Collagen Induction Therapy

Collagen Induction Therapy works by using sterile micro-needles to puncture the skin, creating micro-injuries as it penetrates the deeper layers. These micro-injuries trigger a wound healing response, stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. This procedure is a great way of bringing back the youthful glow and plump look that we lose with age.

Marine Peel Treatment

The Marine Peel Treatment is a skin rejuvenation treatment that provides an all-natural alternative to harsh chemical and glycolic peels. Using powerful marine and botanical actives found in marine algae and herbs, it works with the skin to soothe and repair, rather than aggravating it. The vitamin and mineral rich treatment helps to soothe skin that’s been ravaged by pollutants and environmental aggressors. As a result, the skin has a fresh and youthful glow.

When you combine both the Collagen Induction Therapy and Marine Peel Treatment, it produces powerful results for premature ageing. The Collagen Induction Therapy creates micro-skin channels and promotes the production of collagen. The Marine Peel Treatment rejuvenates the skin and restores your skin’s natural glow.

Sea Collagen Marine Serum

In combination with the rejuvenating treatments, you should use skincare that will work with your skin to keep it looking younger for longer. The right skincare will also extend the results of your professional treatments. The scientifically-formulated Sea Collagen Marine Serum face moisturiser from ZAHEDA® Skincare contains a unique mix of marine and botanical ingredients to leave your skin plump and looking more youthful.

Unlike high street moisturisers that simply create a barrier, the Sea Collagen Marine Serum uses power natural actives. These include wakame sea kelp, squalane, sodium hyaluronate and co-enzyme Q10. All of which work together to maintain hydration levels, boost collagen production, and protect against oxidative stress.

Ultimate Youth Lift

To finish off your skincare routine, we suggest using the Ultimate Youth Lift eye cream from ZAHEDA® Skincare – it’s ideal for anyone looking to reduce telltale signs of ageing such as puffiness, lines, and wrinkles. It contains powerful anti-ageing ingredients like Wakame sea kelp, galactoarabinan, sodium hyaluronate, and co-enzyme Q10 to keep your skin looking youthful.

Here at The Laser Treatment Clinic, our skincare professionals are asked countless times whether or not you need to change your skincare routine for the summer season. And the answer is fairly simple; there are certain alterations that can be made to keep your skin looking and feeling naturally healthy throughout the duration of summer.

In this article, we will take you through what elements of your skincare routine can be altered and provide recommendations for the best summer skincare products.

Skin care routine changes

In the winter months, we usually tend to apply heavier skincare creams to combat the cold and dry air we face when we leave the house. Thankfully, in the summer months, the temperatures rise and so does the humidity. This means that we can put down the creams and switch to serums and gel moisturisers.

Serums and gels provide enough moisture for the skin in higher humidity and add a natural dewiness to your complexion that works to defend against free radical damage and fights off the signs of aging. Continuing to apply heavier creams throughout the warmer months could lead to clogged pores and breakouts.

Skin care products for Summer
