The sun can cause some serious damage to your skin if you aren’t using sunscreen. At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we’re here to explain to you exactly what sun damaged skin is, along with the treatments available. It’s important to know what damage the sun is capable of doing to your skin, and how to avoid this.

So, what exactly is sun damaged skin?

Sun damage skin refers to skin that has been affected from overexposure to the sun. This includes actinic keratoses, sun spots, wrinkles, and a leathery skin texture. If you have sun damaged skin there’s a number of ways our professional team of skincare experts can help. But first, it’s important to know the different kinds of sun damage signs.

Here are some of the common signs of sun damaged skin:

Premature wrinkles

Brown spots, known as sun spots

Thick and leathery texture

Rosacea

Freckles appearing on the skin

These are all common things that the sun damage can do to your skin. We recommend visiting a doctor if you have any new moles (brown spots) on your skin after prolonged sun exposure.

How to avoid sun damage

In order to avoid damage to your skin, there are a couple of things we advise you to do. The first is to wear sunscreen and reapply when necessary. Wearing sunscreen in the sun protects your skin from the damaging UVA and UVB rays emitted from the sun. SPF acts as a barrier between your skin cells and UV sunlight, protecting you from sun damage in the process.

The other effective way to avoid damage from the sun is to avoid being out in the sun for long periods of time. If you’re planning a winter escape to a hot country soon, avoiding the sun during the hottest parts of the day protects your skin and prevents sunburn.

Treatments for sun damaged skin

Many people who have sun damaged skin do not like the appearance or texture of their skin. At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we aim to improve the skin’s texture and appearance through our range of treatments we offer.

The most effective treatment for sun damaged skin is laser treatment. We offer both ablative and non-ablative laser treatments, to suit your needs.

If you’re interested in skincare treatment, book your free consultation with us today, where one of our skincare professionals will assess your skin and offer tailored advice.

Our skin goes through a lot in our lifetime. As it starts to lose its youthful appearance, you may start to notice the likes of fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation. The result of sun damage can become more obvious too. It’s completely natural to want to restore your skin to its former glory, however many are put off by the thought of needing cosmetic surgery.

This is where skin rejuvenation treatment comes in! At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we can help you access anti-ageing solutions without cosmetic surgery. Our aim is for you to enjoy radiant and healthy-looking skin once more.

What is skin rejuvenation?

Skin rejuvenation is the name we give to any treatment that’s designed to restore and revive your skin. In many cases skin rejuvenation will help to tackle signs of ageing, leaving you with firmer and smoother skin to feel confident in.

We have curated a number of treatments and products that can make a big difference to your skin, with noticeable and long-lasting results for you to take advantage of.

We can offer you a consultation to determine the best treatment depending on your skin and your individual concerns. Our team make sure we tailor your treatment to get the best possible results.

How does it work?

There are mainly two types of skin rejuvenation treatments. The first type focuses on the removal of tired or dead skin cells, which encourages the skin to revitalise itself. These treatments help to disrupt the top layer of your skin in order for it to become stronger and healthier. These treatments aren’t invasive and it shouldn’t be painful.

The second type of treatment available helps the skin to appear plumper and fuller, thanks to the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles or loss of firmness.

Advanced Microneedling with RF (Radio Frequency)

Remodel your face and body. Our popular fractional skin treatment stimulates collagen and elastin production of the underlying layers of the dermis. By targeting the deeper layers of the skin, tissues of the face and body can be remodelled to reveal more healthy smooth radiant youthful appearance.

The treatment can be used on any areas that can benefit from resurfacing and subdermal renewal. The most commonly treated areas include the face, periorbital area, abdomen, thighs, legs and buttocks.

Book a free consultation

We have over 25 years of experience consisting of non-invasive laser treatments and also non-laser treatments to help you achieve skin rejuvenation. We can create a tailor-made skincare plan just for you, depending on your skin type and needs.

You can book a free consultation with us online or by phone. We are open every day to help you with your skin concerns!

The cause of Hyperpigmentation is an increase in the production of the pigment melanin in your skin. This natural pigment gives us the colour of our skin, hair, and eyes. The increased production of melanin to certain areas of the skin, particularly the face, can be caused by several factors. This includes, sun exposure, skin inflammation or injuries, age, and hormone changes (more common amongst women). This skin condition disproportionately affects those with darker skin – typically Black and Asian skin. This is because this skin type already contains higher amounts of melanin.

Sun Exposure and Sunspots

Sun exposure and sun damage is considered the most common cause of hyperpigmentation. Sunlight triggers the production of melanin in your skin, and it acts as a protective barrier in your skin to damage. When you are exposed to high levels of UV rays your skin’s production of melanin can be affected, thus resulting in hyperpigmentation appearing on the skin. Once you have started to notice this appearing, if you continue to go out in the sun without SPF, these patches of skin will only get darker.

Hormones

Hormonal changes can be a cause of a particular type of hyperpigmentation known as melasma. Unlike other forms of hyperpigmentation, melasma is seen amongst Asian and Caucasian women. Melasma is caused by a mixture of changes in hormones and UV exposure and can be found on the face, specifically across the cheeks.

Hyperpigmentation and Acne

Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation is a specific type of skin issue appearing because of inflammation or an injury to the skin. This is very common if you have suffered with acne in the past. The skin tends to appear darker after the initial injury or acne is cleared and treated. It is important to understand that there are various types of hyperpigmentation, which can lead to confusion regarding treatment. We always recommend speaking to a specialist when addressing skin concerns and considering different treatment methods.

Our Treatments for Hyperpigmentation

Despite there being different types and different causes of hyperpigmentation, they can all be treated with our in-clinic treatment options. By booking a free consultation with a member of our expert team we can advise you on the correct treatment method for you and your individual circumstances. You can look at our Hyperpigmentation page to learn more about our treatment methods and see some of the amazing results we have had with our previous clients. If you are struggling with this or any other skin issues, please get in contact with us today; we will strive to find you the perfect solution for you skin.

We all know that sunscreen is essential during the day, especially during the sunnier months of the year. However, many of us are unaware of the effects of UV rays when we are sitting indoors. In reality, you are still at risk of UV damage if you are inside a car or sitting near a window in your home as the glass won’t protect you from the damaging rays. With so many of us now spending time indoors and working from home, it is more important than ever to be aware of the dangers of sitting near a sunlit window, and what you can do to improve any sun damage that has already occurred.

Indoor Sun Damage

As with any kind of sun damage, indoor sun damage occurs due to exposure to harmful UV rays. Both UVA and UVB rays damage your skin, although the effects of UVB rays can be seen far more quickly than those of UVA rays. Your windows protect you from the shorter UVB rays, which is why most of us feel safe spending time by a sunny window as we don’t suffer any immediate consequences like sunburn. However, what the glass doesn’t protect you from are UVA rays which penetrate deeper into the skin causing long-lasting damage like wrinkles, pigmentation and even skin cancer.

Preventing Indoor Sun Damage

So, what can you do to prevent this damage from occurring? The simplest way to do so is by using an SPF. A broad-spectrum sunscreen offers the best protection against sun damage, protecting against both UVA and UVB rays whether you are outside or indoors.

Dealing with Existing Sun Damage

If, like most people, you already suffer from sun damage, worry not. The expert team at our Harley Street clinic can help you significantly improve the look of any existing damage using two of our most popular sun damage treatments: photo-rejuvenation and advanced dermabrasion.

Photo-rejuvenation treatment

Our photo-rejuvenation treatment involves the use of IPL to treat pigmentation, sun spots, redness, and broken capillaries caused by sun damage, creating a more even-toned complexion. Photo-rejuvenation can also be used to address other tell-tale signs of sun damage, including wrinkles and textural issues and promote the stimulation of collagen and elastin over time.

Advanced Dermabrasion

Using medical-grade crystals, our advanced dermabrasion treatment is suitable for all skin types and works on the upper layers of the skin to exfoliate and trigger the body’s natural wound healing response leading to rejuvenation. This helps to generate collagen and elastin, the two proteins that are often lost as a result of sun damage, leading to skin looking older. Thus leaving the skin smoother and fresher looking.

Derma White Treatment

Our exclusive Derma White Treatment is suitable for all skin types and gives a natural exfoliation to the upper layers of the skin to clear Sun Damage, Hyperpigmentation, Skin Pigmentation, Marks, Blemishes and Uneven Skin Tone, leaving your skin with a clearer and brighter skin tone.

We all love to be out in the sunshine, considering how little we get of it in the UK, but if you aren’t careful it can leave a permanent mark on your skin, referred to as sun damage.

Sun exposure means exposure to UV rays too, which cause damage to your skin. This is most visible in the form of sunburn. More worryingly, over time extended exposure can also cause dark spots, wrinkles and even skin cancer. The result of this extended exposure is sun damage. You may already be suffering from it without realising it, especially if you have dark spots. The overall effect of this sun damage is that your skin – and therefore you– can appear much older. In fact, sun damage caused by exposure to UV rays accounts for as much as 80% of skin ageing!

This leaves us with the million-dollar question: can sun damage be reversed? The simple answer is that it can, to some degree. By trusting professional skin experts, you can erase the majority of the damage done by too much time in the sun, with plenty of different treatments on offer to address specific concerns.

Wrinkles

Wrinkles are often one of the types of sun damage least talked about, as most of us accept them as a natural part of the ageing process. It can, however, speed up this process, as it breaks down elastin and collagen, the two proteins which give skin its firm and youthful look.

For those already suffering from wrinkles, the experienced team at our clinic can offer several different treatment options – as treatment plans are tailor-made for each of our clients, make sure that you book a free consultation with our Skin Specialist before booking any treatments. This will ensure that you are only investing in the most effective procedures for your specific skin concerns.

One of our most popular treatment options for wrinkles caused by sun damage is Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), a non-invasive procedure which can be used to tackle several different signs of sun damage and this combined with other advanced treatments in a bespoke package plan made specially for you will give you the best results possible. Our Skin Specialist can offer you a Free Consultation where she would make a bespoke treatment plan for you once she has examined your skin and discussed your skin concerns.

Sun Spots

Sun spots are the tell-tale sign of sun damage. Try as you might but no amount of home remedies or over-the-counter products will do away with these as well as professional treatments. Caused by the body’s defence mechanism to guard against harm from UV rays, sun spots manifest as flat marks with either a black or brown colouring. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Laser is an ideal choice for this issue to quickly reveal a more youthful and even-toned complexion.

The combination of treatments available are suitable for all skin types. To find out more, it is highly recommended you visit our clinic for a free consultation with our skin specialist.

Everyone loves to get as much sunshine as they can, yearning for that elusive golden tan and healthy glow. However, if you spend too much time in the sun, without taking proper care to protect your skin, you’ll find that the results are far from pleasant and can include burns, blisters, and of course hyperpigmentation which is usually a telltale sign of ageing and excess sun exposure. This is particularly more common in Asian and black African skin. Sun damage is one of the most common types of hyperpigmentation, yet most people rarely think about the long-term problems they are causing their skin.

How Sun Damage Can Happen

When you are in the sun, beyond the visible light you can see, you are also exposed to UV rays, which aren’t visible to the naked eye. UVA and UVB rays both reach the Earth, causing damage to your skin.

The first of these rays, UVA rays, can damage your skin even on the deepest layers, penetrating well into the dermis. The other harmful ray that can cause skin damage is UVB. This short-wavelength ray is what causes immediate damage in the form of sunburn. Even short exposure to these UV rays will cause premature ageing, hyperpigmentation, and even skin cancer.

If you already display the visible signs of sun damage, then it is likely that you will want to tackle this, due to the unsightly nature of hyperpigmentation. Thankfully, there are plenty of things you can do to treat this type of hyperpigmentation.

How You Can Treat Sun Damage

When it comes to treating sun damage, like with any form of pigmentation, you should seek the advice of skin professionals who have years of experience in treating this common issue. Our own staff here at The Laser Treatment Clinic, have decades of combined experience in effectively tackling hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage, even on sensitive skin types and dark skin tones.

Our award-winning Derma White Treatment is a skin lightening procedure which can safely be used to treat hyperpigmentation, including sun damage. Not only will you notice that your skin is glowing just after one treatment, but after several sessions, areas of skin damage will be significantly improved. Depending on the severity of your sun damage, you will need multiple sessions spread out over several weeks to achieve the best results.

Once you have a personalised in-clinic treatment plan, you should invest in the right home care products to not only support the results of your hyperpigmentation treatments but also to prevent any further sun damage.

“How can I stop my face from ageing?” is a question we often get asked by our clients. While there is no way to stop the ageing process, there are steps you can take to prevent premature ageing. In our latest blog, we’ll run you through the professional treatments you can use to slow down the signs of ageing.

What Causes Skin to Age

Before we talk about how to prevent premature ageing, it’s important to know the most common factors that cause it. Sun exposure, smoking, lack of sleep, and an unhealthy diet all contribute to premature ageing but our modern lifestyle plays a part too. There is no quick fix to combat these irritants, and often a lifestyle change is required to keep your skin from looking older than you feel. If you already suffer from premature ageing, professional treatments can help you turn back the clock on your skin.

Professional Treatments

Here at The Laser Treatment Clinic, we have 18 years of professional skin care experience and we offer a range of treatments that can be used alone or combined to effectively tackle the signs of premature facial ageing.

Collagen Induction Therapy

Collagen Induction Therapy works by using sterile micro-needles to puncture the skin, creating micro-injuries as it penetrates the deeper layers. These micro-injuries trigger a wound healing response, stimulating the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. This procedure is a great way of bringing back the youthful glow and plump look that we lose with age.

Marine Peel Treatment

The Marine Peel Treatment is a skin rejuvenation treatment that provides an all-natural alternative to harsh chemical and glycolic peels. Using powerful marine and botanical actives found in marine algae and herbs, it works with the skin to soothe and repair, rather than aggravating it. The vitamin and mineral rich treatment helps to soothe skin that’s been ravaged by pollutants and environmental aggressors. As a result, the skin has a fresh and youthful glow.

When you combine both the Collagen Induction Therapy and Marine Peel Treatment, it produces powerful results for premature ageing. The Collagen Induction Therapy creates micro-skin channels and promotes the production of collagen. The Marine Peel Treatment rejuvenates the skin and restores your skin’s natural glow.

Sea Collagen Marine Serum

In combination with the rejuvenating treatments, you should use skincare that will work with your skin to keep it looking younger for longer. The right skincare will also extend the results of your professional treatments. The scientifically-formulated Sea Collagen Marine Serum face moisturiser from ZAHEDA® Skincare contains a unique mix of marine and botanical ingredients to leave your skin plump and looking more youthful.

Unlike high street moisturisers that simply create a barrier, the Sea Collagen Marine Serum uses power natural actives. These include wakame sea kelp, squalane, sodium hyaluronate and co-enzyme Q10. All of which work together to maintain hydration levels, boost collagen production, and protect against oxidative stress.

Ultimate Youth Lift

To finish off your skincare routine, we suggest using the Ultimate Youth Lift eye cream from ZAHEDA® Skincare – it’s ideal for anyone looking to reduce telltale signs of ageing such as puffiness, lines, and wrinkles. It contains powerful anti-ageing ingredients like Wakame sea kelp, galactoarabinan, sodium hyaluronate, and co-enzyme Q10 to keep your skin looking youthful.

Hyperpigmentation can be very unsightly and can be difficult to treat. Darker skin types, in particular, are more prone to hyperpigmentation than any other skin type. Hyperpigmentation in dark skin causes both men and women to have an uneven skin tone which can be embarrassing for many people. Hyperpigmented skin also does not take well to makeup, as it causes anything applied to pigmented areas to look quite grey and ashy.

Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is a type of hyperpigmentation that is very common in dark skins.

PIH is a type of hyperpigmentation that is caused specifically by inflammation of the skin. All skin types can become inflamed by, for example, scarring caused by acne, stretch marks, eczema and excessive exposure to the sun. With dark skin types, when the inflamed skin begins to heal, the healing process can result in an increased production of melanin which leads to PIH.

PIH affects skin on the face or body and usually shows up as dark patches or small concentrated spots.

Our award-winning and exclusive Derma White treatment is a safe and effective way to great rid of most types of PIH on dark skin.

How does the Derma White Treatment work?

The Derma White Treatment is a type of skin exfoliation delivered through an advanced peel treatment. It combines highly advanced technology with high-quality skin care products to give you a much clearer and brighter complexion.

Derma White Treatment is a safe and painless treatment and completely safe for all skin types.

It works by increasing the microcirculation process, which in turn increases the metabolism of the skin cells, promotes collagen renewal and encourage the elimination of hyperpigmentation to give you a clear, fresher-looking and more even skin tone.

We understand that everyone has different skin care needs and we ensure that we tailor the treatment to suit your particular requirements. Depending on your needs, we recommend a course of 6 to 12 treatments to gain maximum benefits.

Benefits of Derma White Treatment

With the Derma White Treatment, you can rest assured that you are getting a treatment that:

• Provides permanent results
• Is safe and gentle on all skin types
• Does not involve harsh chemicals that cause more damage to the skin

Contact us today at The Laser Treatment Clinic for a consultation and see what we can do for you with our exclusive Derma White Treatment.

Rosacea is a skin condition that mainly affects the face but can affect the neck or even the chest area. It’s similar to sunburn or blushing and can have a large psychological impact on the sufferer. Now Rosacea can be treated in some ways so that you can improve your confidence and achieve natural, healthy and clear skin.

In today’s blog, The Laser Treatment Clinic look at what you need to know about the Rosacea treatment and how it can help sufferers.

The Treatment

The treatment itself involves a procedure that fires beams of light aimed at blood vessels in the skin to shrink them and make them less visible. Therefore making your skin look more healthy and natural in a fast and non-invasive fashion.

Depending on the severity of the skin condition then it may take at least three treatments for it to visibly start to reduce in redness. It’s best to ask your physician when you’re at the clinic for Rosacea treatment about how many treatments you’ll need in relation to your specific needs.

The treatment itself only takes on average around 10 to 20 minutes and you’ll be in an out in no time!

Benefits

The treatment itself can provide a multitude of benefits to the sufferer and vastly change their lifestyle, one of which would be self-confidence. People who suffer from Rosacea often experience self-esteem and confidence issues due to the redness and soreness of the skin, particularly around the face. Depending on the severity of the condition it can completely change a person’s life and in some cases, people avoid going out completely.

This effective treatment can help massively in boosting confidence and self-esteem as the results can often completely remove the redness and sore feeling. Allowing previous sufferers the freedom to do whatever they’d like without fear of feeling like they’re being looked at.

A huge benefit would be how fast it takes for the results to show, with some customers reporting instant reduction to the redness of their skin to a few hours after. Knowing that it’s that simple only helps with confidence, with the knowledge that if the condition ever returns all it takes is a simple procedure to get clear and healthy skin.

If you’re suffering from Rosacea and would like to know more about laser treatment then get in touch with us today by booking a free consultation!
