A Step by Step Skincare Guide For Active Acne

Posted on 25 Jun, 2022

At The Laser Treatment Clinic, we know just how acne in its active stage can affect a person’s mental and physical well being. This is why we offer a range of solutions to help alleviate the symptoms of active acne. One of the best ways to manage your active acne is through a regular skincare routine.

Even though a skincare routine won’t banish the acne from your face, it will help keep it clean, fresh, and controlled. You don’t need a million fancy products to help with your acne either, in fact less is sometimes more. A simple and effective skincare routine will suffice.

With that being said, here is our step by step skincare routine for those who suffer with active acne.

Step 1: Use a light Cleanser

Washing your face is an essential part of keeping acne under control. Clogged sebaceous  glands are one of the main causes of active acne. This is because a build-up in oil results in blackheads: a common form of acne. Washing your face regularly with a gentle cleanser stops the build-up from happening and in turn, prevents a breakout.

When experiencing acne in its active stage, you should treat your skin gently and carefully. Washing your face vigorously can irritate your acne and make it worse. So it’s important to take care when applying your skincare products.

A light cleansing toner with natural ingredients is the best kind of cleanser to use on your active acne. A great example of this would be our Ocean Tone Cleanser Made to eliminate all the impurities your skin may accumulate on a day to day basis. This cleanser is a great choice for acne prone skin. Avoid exfoliating and scrubbing the areas that you have active acne spots as that will only spread the bacteria and worsen the problem.

Step 2: Apply Any Acne Treatment You Might Have

Once your skin is clean and pat dry, now is the best time to apply any over the counter acne treatment. If the over the counter treatments aren’t strong enough for you then you may need to be prescribed something from your doctor.

If you’ve been prescribed acne medication then apply this here instead. Having freshly clean skin is important when applying acne specific products.

Step 3: Moisturiser

Many people believe that as they have oily skin, moisturiser won’t work for them. However, this is not the case. A light non-oily moisturiser hydrates the skin, which can be dried out from using acne medications. Keeping your skin hydrated is an essential part of your skincare routine and shouldn’t be overlooked!

A great moisturiser option is our specifically formulated Marine Fluid Shine Free. This light moisturising serum contains  natural marine ingredients such as wakame sea kelp and marine plant extract. This serum is also an excellent anti-aging product that reduces wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Avoid oily or heavy creamy moisturisers as they will clog the pores and over-regulate the oils in the skin, to worsen the problem.

Some of our clients when they first come to visit us have been using heavy creams on their face believing their skin is dry, when in fact it is some of the medications or topical creams they have been prescribed, have made the skin temporary very dry, leading to them to using unsuitable products. So just this first change can make a big difference. However it can take a few months to see the difference and for the skin to rejuvenate and settle into the new routine.
