Acne scarring for many individuals serves as a permanent reminder of the uncomfortable skin condition. With over 25 years experience at our Harley Street clinic we treat thousands of clients with acne scar concerns every year, ensuring that you are in safe hands with our experienced team.
What is Acne Scarring?
Acne scarring can often result from active breakouts which penetrated into the skin deep enough to damage its structure. As pores swell from the acne-causing bacteria, the follicle walls become damaged.
If the resulting damage is substantial enough, the skin’s attempt at repairing itself can result in the formation of a scar.
Common Types of Acne Scarring
- Boxcar scars: shallow to medium depth scars with defined edges that are most commonly found across the cheeks.
- Ice pick scars – deep scars with a narrow diameter, they can often resemble large pores.
- Rolling acne scars – shallow scars with a wide diameter, they often appear as undulations on the skin.
