Acne can be a distressing skin condition that can have a dramatic effect on a person’s life. Although it generally appears during puberty and subsides in early adulthood, some people continue to suffer from it, and the number of people developing spots later in life is now on the rise.

While there are no magic wands when it comes to acne, there are ways to help manage the spots:

1. Skincare routine
When your face is covered in pus-filled spots, it can be very tempting to go for skincare products that are aimed at teenage spot-prone skin. Avoid these, however, as they can be simply too harsh for your face. Try and treat your skin as gently as possible, using mild products and avoiding touching your face.

2. Diet
While the jury is still out over the effects of diet on active acne, it is important to ensure that you are as healthy as possible in order to give your skin a fighting chance. Make sure your diet is balanced and rich in vitamins and minerals, and that you drink enough water! Some people find that cutting out dairy products and sugar can have a positive effect on their complexion, too.
