Are tattoos falling out of favour?

Posted on 23 Feb, 2012

It has been reported that both Natasha Giggs and Katie Price have added to their tattoo collections recently. While Ms Giggs has had a large tattoo inked onto her back and extending all the way down her right side, Katie Price has yet to reveal her latest tattoo.

And yet, while celebrities still seem to favour large and noticeable tattoos, public opinion seems to be turning against them, and tattoos are becoming a reason for criticism and judgement. Reading the comments sections under online articles, you are struck by how many readers class these tattoos as ‘slag tags’ or ‘tramp stamps’.

While for celebrities who arguably do not live in the real world, this kind of judgement may be less problematic, but what about the rest of us? Is it possible that tattoos could create an obstacle in the hunt for employment, or even affect our social relationships?

It is clear that as more people have tattoos, there is also an ever-growing number of people having laser tattoo removal treatment. Whether this will discourage people from having them done in the future remains to be seen.
