How long will tattoo removal take?

Tattoo removal is growing in popularity, as it is an effective way of getting rid of any unwanted tattoo designs. However, although it’s becoming more and more common, many people still don’t know what the process entails or how long it’s likely to take. A common question that many patients ask is, ‘how long will the process take?’

There is no simple answer to this, as the length of the tattoo removal process varies on the size and type of the tattoo, and a particularly large tattoo may take many long sessions.

Small and medium tattoos

Small tattoos, such as symbols generally only take a matter of minutes to treat initially. Medium-sized tattoos, such as floral designs can take significantly longer. ‘Written text’ tattoos are fairly easy to treat, as the surgeon traces the characters with the laser.

Large tattoos

Large tattoos, particularly ones which cover an entire forearm or any other large area of the body, will require many lengthy sittings, which can take an hour or more.

There are now many clinics across the UK which offer laser tattoo removal, so you should do your research before making a final decision.
