How much washing is too much washing?

At the Laser Treatment Clinic, we find when clients first come to see us, many of them are under the notion that their acne is a result of dirty skin and to remedy this is to excessively wash the face. This is wrong. Excessive washing will strip the skins natural oils, moisture and hydration which dries the skin out. The body compensates for this by producing even more oil which can lead to clogging of the pores and subsequently acne.

The correct procedure for washing the face is once in the morning and once in the evening. This will remove nightly impurities such as sweating and rubbing against bed sheets and daily impurities such as make up, sweating and coming in to contact with outside surfaces.

Opt for creamy cleansers free from paraben and artificial perfumes such as the Deep Sea Cleanse:

Stay away from harsh soaps and face washes which contain detergents and foaming agents as these will upset the skins natural pH balance. Making this small change to your skin care routine contributes significantly to promoting and maintaining healthy skin.
