How to look after acne prone skin

When you suffer from active acne, it can be tempting to go overboard with cleansing and treatments. Skincare products aimed at teenage or spot prone skin can be far too harsh, stripping the skin of sebum and aggravating the condition.

Washing too often or using harsh products can exacerbate the problem. Spots are caused by an excess of sebum and skin cells, and too much washing simply stimulates the production of more sebum to compensate.

Wash only in the morning and evening, and use a gentle cleanser that respects the fragility of your skin, such as our Epi-A Cleanse Active.

It’s also a good idea to clean your skin if you have been exercising. Sweat and heat can provide the perfect breeding ground for more bacteria, so gently clean your skin as soon as you can.

Avoid any products that contain alcohol, as this will strip the skin of its sebum and stimulate the production of more. Your skin could become dry, red and irritated and prone too more spots as a result.

Exfoliating can help your skin’s renewal process, but only use gentle products. The Epi Peel uses micro-particles which will gently remove excess sebum and skin cells accumulated in the follicles and accelerate cellular turnover.

Finally, it is imperative that you leave your spots alone. Avoid picking, squeezing or even touching them, as you could force bacteria deeper into your pores and worsen infections, and create damage to tissue that will result in scars.
