How to Treat Hyper-Pigmentation on Asian Arab and Black African Skin

Posted on 17 Jul, 2018

One of the most popular inquiries we receive here at The Laser Treatment Clinic is about our Derma White Treatment for hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone, particularly about how it can treat darker tones such as Asian, Arab and black African skin. Because darker skin naturally produces more melanin making it more prone to hyperpigmentation than lighter skin types.

What is Hyperpigmentation?

Although hyperpigmentation is a harmless skin condition, it can really impact your confidence because it often appears on the face, making it difficult to hide. A number of things can cause hyperpigmentation including genetic disposition, hormonal changes, and underlying dermatological conditions – in the form of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

A common cause of hyperpigmentation on Asian and black African skin, PIH is the result of an inflammatory dermatological condition such as acne, ingrown hairs, irritation from shaving or eczema. On darker skin tones, once the underlying condition has healed, the affected area can darken in colour due to excess melanin production. Although often referred to as “acne scarring” PIH isn’t actually a true scar. Certain antibiotics, blood pressure medications, and oral diabetic medications are some of the drugs that can also lead to hyperpigmentation.

Treating Hyperpigmentation

With over 18 years of experience in treating dark skin types, we possess the expert knowledge and care required to treat hyperpigmentation on Asian and black African skin. Our exclusive Derma White Treatment has been designed to safely and efficiently treat hyperpigmentation and PIH on dark skin tones. The treatment combines highly advanced laser technology with high-quality skin care products to give you visibly improved skin.

Unlike other professional treatments, our award-winning Derma White Treatment doesn’t use chemicals, glycolic acid, or any other ingredients that bleach the skin. Instead, we use an exclusive blend consisting of marine and plant herbs to safely and naturally improve your skin tone and achieve permanent results.

The Derma White Treatment can also be used in combination with our Collagen Induction Therapy to effectively treat new and old scars, stretch marks, acne scarring, and other common dark skin tone concerns.

Although you can attempt to self-treat your hyperpigmentation, it’s recommended that you go to a professional because some over-the-counter products can lead to your hyperpigmentation worsening if not used properly. Lightening agents like hydroquinone  – which are often prescribed to treat hyperpigmentation – can also cause skin sensitivity and concerns have been raised about their safety by regulatory agencies in multiple countries.
