Preventing stretch marks

Posted on 09 Jun, 2011

Stretch marks are commonly associated with pregnancy, as the skin stretches well beyond its elastic capacities. They can, however, affect both men and women and can be caused by significant weight loss as well as weight gain.

Once they are there, the laser can be an effective stretch mark removal treatment; but is there any way to reduce the risk of them forming in the first place?

If possible, weight gain or loss should be done gradually. A well-balanced, healthy and adequate diet should leave the skin time to adapt to weight changes without putting undue pressure on the dermis.

Keep skin well hydrated by making sure you drink enough water every day, and by using moisturisers on parts of the body that are vulnerable to stretch marks (stomach, thighs, breasts, hips etc.).

The Laser Treatment Clinic offers skin products that have been specifically designed to help prevent the formation of stretch marks:

• Profile Stretch Mark Serum
The formula is effective both in treating and preventing stretch marks. It ensures that the skin is nourished and hydrated, which helps it to maintain elasticity.

• Profile Body Peel
A gentle exfoliant that encourages the skin to regenerate and renew itself and can help in the prevention of stretch marks.
