Protect your skin from the sun

With spring now here, many of you are probably already planning your summer getaway as the perfect antidote to the UK weather and the stresses and strains of everyday life. While a holiday in the sun may be wonderfully blissful, make sure this year you take real care of your skin.

A tan may make you feel more confident and more attractive, but it is easy to forget that its very existence indicates that damage is occurring. Both UVA and UVB rays can be a danger for your skin:

• Of course, excessive exposure to the sun can increase the likelihood of developing skin cancer,
• It can also cause the collagen and elastin that supports skin and makes it supple to disintegrate, resulting in sagging and wrinkles,
• Pigmentation production and regulation can be affected, resulting in age spots and other pigmentation irregularities,
• The skin can also be left dehydrated, dry and flaky…

The overall result is skin that is prematurely aged, so while the tan may look great for a short while the long-term effects can be far from desirable.

Prevention is always better than cure, which is why it is so important to be vigilant and to use a sun block. Photo rejuvenation can also help to reverse some of the ageing effects of exposure to sunlight.
