Repairing sun damage

Posted on 30 May, 2012

The recent mini-heatwave has been a great excuse to spend as much time as possible in the great outdoors. But as a recent survey showed, many of us underestimate the risks of exposure to the sun in the U.K. and are not using adequate protection.

If the UVA and UVB rays are able to reach the skin unimpeded by sunblock, they can cause significant damage to the skin. Even in cosmetic terms, sun damage can have lasting effects that can age the skin dramatically: fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmented patches, enlarged pores and thread veins…

Once the damage has been done, the only really effective form of treatment is laser sun damage treatment and photo rejuvenation, where intense pulses of light can be used to reduce the appearance of those signs of damage and premature ageing.

The most effective approach, however, is, of course, to make sure you wear adequate sun protection in the sun: you should be wearing a sunblock with a hat and sunglasses every day during the summer months… Your skin will thank you for it in the long run!
