Using IPL to combat sun damaged skin

Excessive and unprotected exposure to the sun can cause various unwanted signs of ageing: fine lines, rosacea, thread veins, age or liver spots… These can add years to our appearance, making us look much older than our years.

In these cases, IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, can offer a non-invasive form of treatment that addresses your problems without damaging the skin. It works in two ways:

• Certain lesions such as liver spots and thread veins absorb the light energy produced by IPL. As the light is absorbed, it is transformed into heat energy, causing the temperature of the lesion to increase. Once temperatures reach a certain level, the lesions begin to disintegrate and fade away, leaving clearer skin and a more even skin tone behind.

• IPL also encourages skin renewal to occur, and this includes stimulating the production of collagen. Increased collagen production results in plumper skin and some clinical trials have shown that a thicker layer of collagen reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
With this kind of treatment available, there is no need to suffer from the premature signs of ageing caused by the sun.
