What not to do if you have acne

Acne can be a terribly frustrating skin condition, and those who suffer from it can end up making their skin worse through exasperation. You should always seek acne treatment as early as possible in order to prevent it from worsening or from leaving scars in its wake, but here’s a list of things that you should not do to your skin:

• First is the most obvious: don’t pick or squeeze your blemishes. Your poor skin is already inflamed and infected, so treating it harshly won’t do it any good. Squeezing can cause infections to worsen and affect deeper layers of skin. Tissue can be permanently damaged as a result and leave you with scarring.

• Don’t use harsh cleansing products and don’t cleanse too much or too often. Again, you need to be gentle with your skin. Harsh products can strip your skin of natural moisture, stimulating the production of sebum to counteract the resulting dryness. And we all know sebum causes more spots.

• If you use make-up, make sure it is oil-free and non-comedogenic as it is designed not to clog pores and thus reduces the likelihood of spots forming.

Remember that your skin is suffering from acne too and treat it gently. Harsh, aggressive products will only irritate it further and could cause damage that only microdermabrasion and laser treatment can then help with.
