What to do if you regret getting a tattoo

A lot of people are very happy with their tattoos and never regret their decision to get one, but it is also very common for people to have second thoughts.

It may be the case that you almost immediately regret getting your tattoo, or that you change your mind in years to come because of career concerns or simply because you’ve matured. People’s interests and tastes change, and your tattoo may not feel relevant to you anymore.

Whatever the reason for your change of heart, it is a comfort to know that you aren’t stuck with a tattoo you regret. Laser treatment can now be used to get rid of tattoos, or drastically reduce their appearance, so you can get a fresh start.

Laser tattoo removal works by breaking down the pigment in the tattoo into tiny particles, which can be carried away from the tattoo site by macrophages (white blood cells in the skin known as ‘scavenger cells’). With a little help from laser technology, your immune system is able to remove the tattoo naturally.

Single colour tattoos in black or blue ink are generally quite easy to remove, but you may face a little difficulty if your design has yellow, purple or green colours in it. Consult a laser treatment clinic for more specific advice on the best way to remove your tattoo.
