Ski Safe this Fun Filled Festive Season

Whether you are a ski pro, ski newbie or just looking forward to some delicious hot chocolate, safety is a must. Not just safety on the slopes but also safety for the skin.

The bright sun, the reflective snow and the cold weather all contribute towards damaging the skin. Contrary to common belief, sun protection is not just for those beach or poolside holidays. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), “UV intensity increases with altitude. As a result, your chance of damaging your eyes and skin increases at higher altitude.” When skiing, you are at these high altitudes so wearing a sun protection of at least a factor 30 is a must.

The bright sun reflects off the snow and ice, therefore you become more susceptible to UV exposure. Increased UV exposure can cause the skin to age prematurely leading to facial fine lines, age spots and wrinkles.

In fact, at such high altitudes, the signs of sun burn may not appear until much later. Therefore, you are at a higher risk of second class burns. This can lead to pigmentation, blisters and scarring which may cause not only physical but psychological discomfort.
If sun protection is not observed and any of the above facial or body skin concerns occur, there are a multitude of treatments to help reverse and treat this. Treatments such as the Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and the Medical Microdermabrasion help to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation whilst promoting more youthful and firm skin.

Before setting off for the ski slopes, remember to equip your skincare bag with some essentials. The cold weather can give rise to very dry skin on both the face and the body. Adding party filled nights with lack of the sleep and alcohol to the mix, the skin is in need of something quite remarkable to keep it fresh and rejuvenated. The Marine Boost Super Serum drenches the skin in moisture to prevent dryness, flakiness and promoting healthy skin. Whilst the Ultimate Youth Lift targets dark circles, redness and fine lines. Don’t forget to apply to the lips for added moisture.
