Laser treatments are the perfect solution to skin pigmentation

Skin pigmentation is a common problem for many people throughout the world. It is characterised by a patch of skin that is darker than that of the rest of the body. The size of the pigmented skin can be small like the size of a coin or in the form of larger patches all over the body, leading to uneven skin tone.

What causes pigmentation of the skin?

Hyper pigmentation of the skin happens when the body produces excessive quantities of melanin- a brown coloured substance responsible for giving skin its colour. The excessive amount of melanin is deposited under the skin and contributes to the darkening of the skin.

Pigmentation of the skin can be caused by a lot of reasons. The most commonly known reason is excessive exposure to harsh sunlight. Two of the sun’s rays, UVA and UVB, are majorly responsible for skin pigmentation. The other most common reason is changes in the person’s hormonal cycle. This usually happens during the pregnancy phase as skin is going through a lot of changes in texture and structure.

How does laser treatment help?

Pigmentation reduction can be effectively done with lasers. Lasers precisely target the pigmentation on the skin and help in eradicating any danger of scarring or tissue injury. Lasers focus the laser light on the scarred area. Following this, the laser sends out pulses of light consistently until all the pigmented area to be treated is covered.

The time for convalescence is usually between 5 to 14 days depending upon the person and the type of condition treated. The treatment is virtually painless and does not require the administration of an anaesthetic.
